ABOUT

I'm Charlene, owner of Bella Brides. I've owned my business in Downtown Bend for the past four years, and I truly love being part of this community. If you've been involved in volunteering with Downtown Bend or the DBBA over the years, there's a good chance we've crossed paths. I've been a regular at board meetings and had the opportunity to serve as an interim board member about a year ago.

I couldn't be more proud to own a business in Downtown Bend, and I would love the opportunity to contribute to its long-term vision and success. I'm originally from Corvallis, and my born-and-raised Bendite husband moved us here ten years ago, and we're here to stay. We have two daughters, ages 5 and 7, and outside of work you'll most likely find me floating on an inner tube in whatever body of water is closest.

I believe I bring the perspective of both a local family and a small business owner, paired with a collaborative mindset, business initiative, and a passion for creative, practical problem-solving. I'm excited about the future of Downtown Bend and would be honored to help shape what comes next. Thank you for your consideration!

WHAT ARE DOWNTOWN’S THREE GREATEST ASSETS?

I believe Downtown Bend's three greatest assets are:

1. Its rare ability to feel both charming and welcoming while remaining vibrant and energetic.
2. Our outstanding locally owned businesses that prioritize quality, authenticity, and memorable experiences over tourist-focused novelty.
3. Our incredible proximity to the Deschutes River and Drake Park, which make downtown feel uniquely connected to the natural beauty that defines Bend.

WHAT ARE DOWNTOWN’S THREE GREATEST OPPORTUNITIES?

I believe Downtown Bend's three greatest opportunities are:

1. Finding more ways to encourage locals to visit and engage with downtown year-round.
2. Continuing to improve the ease, accessibility, and safety of parking.
3. Creating thoughtful, cohesive marketing that consistently tells the story of Downtown Bend across social media and other digital platforms.

WHAT ARE DOWNTOWN’S THREE GREATEST CHALLENGES?

I believe Downtown Bend's three greatest challenges are:

1. Continuing to evolve while remaining competitive with other commercial districts, such as the Box Factory and the Old Mill, for both locals and visitors.
2. Planning for future growth, particularly around parking and accessibility, while preserving the character and integrity that make downtown special.
3. Ensuring that the continued success of Downtown Bend remains a priority in conversations and decision-making at the City level.

WHY DO YOU WANT TO BE ON THE DBBA BOARD OF DIRECTORS?

I want to serve on the DBBA Board because I genuinely care about the future of Downtown Bend. I believe thriving downtowns don't happen by accident. They are the result of thoughtful leadership, collaboration, and a willingness to continually improve while protecting what makes them special. I want to ensure Downtown Bend remains a welcoming destination that feels approachable and inviting to everyone, from lifelong locals to first-time visitors.

Bend is made up of countless small details that together create an exceptional place to live, work, and visit. I would be honored to contribute my perspective, energy, and business experience to help ensure Downtown Bend continues to evolve thoughtfully while preserving the authenticity and character that make it so unique.
