Volunteer for Downtown Bend's Annual Flower Basket Hanging Day!
It's time for our annual Flower Basket Hanging Day, and we need YOUR help!
Every summer, more than 100 beautiful flower baskets transform Downtown Bend into the vibrant, colorful place we all know and love. This community tradition wouldn't be possible without our incredible volunteers.
Date: Tuesday, June 16, 2026
Whether you can help for a few hours or the entire morning, we'd love to have you join us. This is one of those special behind-the-scenes events where you get to literally help make Downtown bloom.
Special Request
Do you own a ladder that is 6 feet tall or taller and would be willing to bring it? Please let us know during registration! Additional ladders help us hang baskets more efficiently and safely throughout Downtown.
How It Works
Step 1: Read through the volunteer positions, shift times, and requirements below.
Step 2: Scroll to the bottom of the page and sign up for the volunteer position that works best for you.
Step 3: Join us on Tuesday, June 16th and help create one of Downtown Bend's most beloved summer traditions!

Volunteer Position #1: Flower Basket Pickup & Delivery (Round 1)
Time: Approximately 7:00 AM – 10:00 AM
Meet At: LandSystems Nursery at 7:00 AM
Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Responsibilities:
Load flower baskets into the U-Haul (two trips will be required)
Travel to Downtown Bend
Unload baskets and stage them near their designated hanging locations
Downtown Staging Location: Corner of Lava Road and Oregon Avenue (outside the Visit Bend Visitor Center)
Volunteer Position #2: Flower Basket Hangers
Time: Approximately 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Meet At: Corner of Lava Road and Oregon Avenue (outside the Visit Bend Visitor Center)
Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Responsibilities:
Attend a brief safety and hanging demonstration
Join a team of 2–3 volunteers (friends and family are welcome to work together)
Receive your assigned downtown zone and supplies
Hang flower baskets throughout Downtown Bend
Must be able to lift 50 lbs or lift that amount with another person.
Volunteer Position #3: Flower Basket Pickup & Delivery (Round 2)
Time: Approximately 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Meet At: LandSystems Nursery at 10:00 AM
Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Responsibilities:
Load the remaining flower baskets into the U-Haul
Transport baskets to Downtown Bend
Unload and stage baskets at designated locations
Downtown Location: To be determined
Volunteer Position #4: U-Haul Driver
Time: Approximately 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Requirements:
Valid driver's license
Comfortable driving a large U-Haul truck
Responsibilities:
Transport flower baskets from LandSystems Nursery to Downtown Bend
Follow a pre-planned route throughout Downtown
Make multiple stops while volunteers unload baskets
Work closely with the event coordinator and delivery team
Volunteer Position #5: U-Haul Co-Pilot
Time: Approximately 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Responsibilities:
Ride shotgun with the U-Haul driver
Help navigate using the route map
Keep deliveries running smoothly
Provide excellent conversation, bad jokes, great jokes, singing, or moral support (all skill levels welcome)
No commercial driving experience required—just a good attitude and a willingness to help!
