Welcome to the Downtown Bend Newsletter, News from the ️ of Bend!

Another great week in Downtown, with the snow off the ground and the sun in the sky, our hopes are high for a fun spring just around the corner. Start keeping your eyes peeled for seasonal sales at all our local boutiques and retail shops!

Its been two weeks since restaurants have been allowed dine in-service since early December, and we are ecstatic to see everyone inside and enjoying themselves. With restrictions slowly being lifted we love the increase in shopping local and supporting those places that suffered the most.  Thank you!

This week you don’t want to miss grabbing drinks at Joolz, their new cocktail “Anything for Selena” is our new favorite. This mezcal cocktail brings in a rich, smoky flavor, with a splash of Aperol and a dash of house-made strawberry syrup that rounds it out with a nice, sweet flavor.  With a full bar, there’s always bound to be something new and delicious at Joolz!

Looking for your new favorite burger, look to Bend Brewing Co, their new whiskey BBQ bacon burger, is stacked high with candied pepper bacon, crispy onions and house made Trade War Stout BBQ sauce. Pair it with a house salad and that view of mirror pond and you are sure to have a great day!

And no week would be complete without stopping by Deschutes Brewery to grab a cold pint of Red Chair while you hang out in their brand new curbside dining (especially now that spring is right around the corner!)

Welcome to the Downtown Bend Newsletter, News from the ️ of Bend!

We all know that spring is just around the corner, and it sure does feel good.  We might have had snow last week, but we can begin to look forward to our spring and summer adventures and plans.

For the Downtown Bend Economic Improvement District (EID), we are dreaming of spring and summer, and creating visions and plans for even further into the future.  Will you join us in this visioning?  CLICK HERE  to share with us what you would love the future of Downtown Bend to look like.

We love when folks come to enjoy downtown on foot, bicycle, tricycle, or one-wheel - but if you're driving, that is great too.  Parking in Downtown Bend is easy and convenient. On the street parking is designed for quick trips (2 hour max), and the parking lots are designed for longer stays.  You can park in the Mirror Pond lots for up to 4 hours, or if you are staying more than 4 hours, choose the parking garage where you can park all day. Parking on the streets is free, and all the lots & the garage are just $1/hour.  For additional information on parking in downtown, click here.
Now, for our weekly recommendations...

This week you don't want to miss grabbing drinks at Barrio.  We recommend trying theMaracuya:  Pisco, passionfruit, lime, agave, egg whites, and bitters.  Oh my, it's delicious.  (Psst... Barrio also has 10 different types of margaritas!!)  While you're there, you might as well try a few tapas too!

We also recommend that you try the Mac & Cheese at The Point.  You can add it as a side to any of their amazing menu items.  Sit outside by the fire and watch Bend go by - their location on the corner of Bond and Franklin provides the perfect people watching!  Or, choose to eat indoors, and enjoy their homey atmosphere.

.. and last but not least, your life in Bend will not be complete until you try the Smoked Salmon Brioche Toast at Blissful Spoon & then share an order of Churro Waffles with your best friend over a second cup of coffee.

Welcome to the Downtown Bend Newsletter, News from the ️ of Bend!

Happy Thursday!  Let's count amazing things to be grateful for today...
  1. Deschutes County will move from Extreme Risk to High-Risk tomorrow (Friday 2/12)
  2. You can now eat indoors at your favorite restaurant (make your reservations for Valentine's Day right this minute!)
  3. We have a winter snowstorm to play in over the weekend!
  4. It's a 3-day weekend for a lot of folks
  5. You can do something kind for someone today
  6. Chocolate ice cream is always available for purchase (seriously, guys, 7 days a week!)
... and you can see Downtown covered in hearts on Sunday thanks to the Waldorf School of Bend.  You don't want to miss this!  We highly recommend planning a snowy walk through our historic downtown 'bombed' with hearts made by local children.  Honestly, how much better could it get?  Over 1,000 hearts will cover Minnesota Ave.  The installation will begin around 7am on Sunday, and the art project will be completed and cleaned up by 9am on Monday.  Stroll through hearts, stop by your favorite coffee shop - grab some cocoa, have some breakfast, maybe an Irish coffee or a bloody mary... Mmmm, Mmmm.  Valentine's Day sure is looking good. ️️

(Thank you to Katie at Wool Town Bend for most of the great heart bomb photos from previous years!)
For Valentine's Day, you have just a few more shopping days!  We love these last-minute gift ideas.

️ Okay, before we start talking about the products we love from this store - can we just take a minute to embrace the message on Bronwen's website?  "Clearing space for what feels most authentically like you" - wow, yes.  That feels like what this year has been all about. Thank you, Bronwen.  Now - down to gifts for your loved ones...  We adore this, this, this, and this (and we think you will too!)

️ We're so in love with this square blanket kit from Wool Town.  This is the perfect gift for someone you love.  Beautiful colors, great design, hours of engagement - this is a fabulous gift for the knitter in your life.

️ It might be tiny - but we LOVE this hatchet pin from Revolvr Menswear.  Who says love can't come in a 0.5" x 1" die-cast soft-enamel pin with black rubber clutch?

Welcome to the Downtown Bend Newsletter, News from the ️ of Bend!

Happy Thursday, my friends.  It's February - the month of love, football, groundhogs and so much more. February is Black History Month, making it the perfect time to celebrate African-American culture. February also plays host to Mardi Gras, National Margarita Day, National Pizza Day, and National Drink Wine Day.

To celebrate Black History Month, we'd like to recommend purchasing a new book from this Anti-Racist Reading List from Dudley's Bookshop Cafe, purchasing Black is Beautiful beer from Joolz to raise funds for police brutality reform and legal defenses for those who have been wronged, or supporting our local community partner, COBLA.

For your COVID-safe Superbowl party, we like to recommend these cute little football cookies from Great Harvest (we have a family pod of 5, so we're planning to get several dozen ), and, of course,  BEER.  For what would the Super Bowl be without a cold beer in hand!  Make sure to shop local and pick up your beer from downtown, click here, here, and here for some of our favorites!

Groundhog day is past, and we know we have six more weeks of winter, which means more sweatshirt weather!  Yay!  We're in love with this 'Good Things Happen' women’s prAna Cozy Up Sweatshirt from Outside In.

For Valentine's Day, we love these gift ideas! --

️ These wool-wrapped horseshoes from Feather's Edge are beautiful! Hanging a horseshoe facing upwards in a "U" shape is said to keep evil out and bring good luck into your home. Whether you believe the legend or not, you have to admit, these horseshoes make for uniquely beautiful home decor and a thoughtful Valentine's Day gift for your loved one.

️ This "I love you more" charm from Just a Little Charm is sure to delight your special someone!

️ Valentine's Day certainly wouldn't be complete without shopping for new lingerie.  We'd like to recommend this Red Silky Smooth Cage Bustier from Tres Chic Lingerie, or one of Romantique's fine selection of French and Italian lace-trimmed lingerie.

... and plan ahead for these special dates too!

Feb 9th, National Pizza Day (Order your pizza here)
Feb 16th, Mardi Gras (shop for fabulous outfits & accessaries here, here, and here)
Feb 18th, National Drink Wine Day (get your wine here, here, or here)
Feb 22nd, National Margarita Day (get your margarita's here, here, or here)

Welcome to the Downtown Bend Newsletter!

We want to let you know how much we appreciate that you chose to support local small businesses this week.  THANK YOU!  You matter - and the actions that you choose are making a difference.  Every smile given, every dollar spent locally, every kind word - it all makes and difference.

We'd like to invite you to stop by Village Interiors, a local home-furnishing store that recently relocated from Lava Road to Wall Street in Downtown Bend.  We are also excited to welcome Backporch Coffee to Downtown Bend!  Backporch will be opening soon - so keep your eye out for their 'open' sign on Bond Street.

This week we recommend a trip to Great Harvest Bread Co.  They have the cutest holiday-themed cookies, you can place your order for holiday rolls while you are there, and don't miss your chance to eat their Spicy Apple Bacon Grilled Cheese - melted sharp cheddar cheese & provolone, thinly sliced apples, bacon, and pepper jelly.  MmmmmMmmmm.

We also want to make sure that you have enough great beer at home this week, because friends don't let friends go without good beer during the holiday season (especially a COVID holiday season!).   Stop by Deschutes Brewery (Jubelale Winter Ale!), Bend Brewing Co. (Sno'd In Winter Ale!),or White Water Taphouse (Fremont B-Bomb!) and pick up your favorite brew!

If you haven't picked up a copy of The Source Weekly yet, you can click here to see Downtown's Holiday Shopping Guide.
Finally, we can't let this newsletter go out without telling you about the McMenamins Gift Card deal happening right now!  Get 5% off gift card purchases totaling $200 or more when you spend $50 on food, beverages and/or merchandise (yes, takeout counts!).  For more information, click here.

Plus - make sure to stop by the Community Tree at dusk to watch the lights go on!  Bend's Community Tree is located at the top of Drake Park next to The Commons Cafe & Taproom and the Beach Hut Deli.

In-person or online, we've made it easy for you to support local Downtown Bend merchants:  For a list of Downtown Bend businesses: click here, for online shopping links: click here, for curbside pick-up and delivery from Downtown Bend restaurants: click here. Thanks for supporting your local Bend families!  Remember, we're in this together and we need you!
