Welcome to the Weekend! We enjoyed the rain for a few days, it provided a nice break from the heat, however, I think we are all ready to get on the water this weekend. With August right around the corner, we are halfway through summer and we have loved every minute of the first half of Summer 21'. With August and September packed full of events and concerts, it's sure to be a great next couple of months!
With the Deschutes County Fair back this weekend for the first time since 2019, we recommend grabbing dinner at one of our favorite places such as...

Zydeco Kitchen & Cocktails offers fine Northwestern cuisine with a Southern twist with a focus on quality, hormone, and pesticide-free organic ingredients.  Recognized by Bend’s Source Weekly for “The Best of Central Oregon” for Best Fine Dining, Best Date Night, and Best Service, Zydeco is a local favorite for appetizers. They also offer a full Gluten-Free menu.

900 Wall Restaurant, established in May of 2009, is located in the heart of downtown Bend. Our food is best described as modern American, with strong influences from Italian and French cuisine. Our menus are seasonally inspired and responsibly sourced

Noi Thai Cuisine offers a variety of traditional Thai dishes that will please the palate and transport you straight to the heart of Thailand. In addition to the traditional Thai culinary, offer “royal” Thai dishes on their fine dining menu, which is known for its refinement, cooking techniques, presentation, ingredient, and flavors to serve the Thai royal household.

Then head out to the Expo Center for games, FFA events, concerts, rides, and fun!
Maybe the County Fair isn't your scene you can always head over to San Simon for a cocktail and charcuterie. Then head right next door over to Tin Pan Theater, to catch a film, now featuring a new late-night showtime!

We did it, we made it through the heatwave, as well as survived the 4th of July weekend! Now that we got through that it seems we are up against a new issue, forest fires. With the largest active fire in the US, burning down by our southern border and the Grandview fire raging just north of us, the fire and smoke inhalation danger has never been higher, hence the state-wide ban on campfires, you can read more about that here.
We are two weeks into the Coid-19 restrictions being lifted in Oregon, and events are in full swing again! If you haven't noticed Munch & music has made a full return and you can find all the information you need here.

In addition to Munch & Music, The Bend Farmers Market which has been back for a few weeks now, is no longer requiring masks. If you haven't been yet, you can pick up fresh local goods and produce every Wednesday on the Brooks alley Promenade from 2-6pm. You can find all the information you need on their website here.
This week we headed over to The Cellar, by Porter Brewing in Redmond. With an incredible aesthetic that perfectly matches their cask-conditioned 'real ales', The Cellar's new basement location off of Oregon is the perfect spot for something new on a hot summer's day. Our favorite beer was the 'BULLETin', an easy-drinking, approachable, malt-oriented Blonde ale, with tropical notes of fruit, it's an amazingly well balanced, and clean IPA.

In September of 2018, the Roberts started Porter Brewing Co., opening their first craft brewery and tasting in Redmond. Avara and Deven Roberts aimed to create Central Oregon’s first all-cask brewery, which specializes in cask-conditioned ales. Now, the Roberts are thrilled to bring their cask ales to downtown Bend. In a speakeasy-like setting, The Cellar features in-house brews, including Irish Red-mond Ale, Jackpine IPA, and Best Bitter. You can also look forward to a few site-specific beers made for the Redmond and Bend locations, respectively. The Cellar will provide a food menu, which consists of savory pies, soft pretzels with beer cheese, and sausage bites. “And really, what pairs better with a Scottish meat pie or a chicken curry pie, than a cask-conditioned ale,” Avara cheerfully exclaimed. Vi’s Pies are a tribute to their daughter, Violet, while Porter Brewing gets its namesake from their son, Porter.

Walk the Chalk is all about community collaboration! We will be creating art live with chalk on the sidewalks of The Commons, on the Brooks Street Plaza on August 14th.  Local businesses and artists will team up for this project, with proceeds going to our local organization, Scalehouse, Collaborative for the Arts.  Businesses can sponsor an Artist Square, and ta local artist will create their own designs for the sidewalk.  There will be several levels of sponsorship available for purchase, each package coming with additional benefits for the businesses, including their business names in the squares, a listing in the brochures, or even picking their own artist in the highest level of sponsorship.

Community Squares will be available the day of the event for a $25 purchase price, and any level or age of artist is welcome for these squares!

This project is meant to be a fun way to bring color to Bend, and to reunite the community through art.  It’s been tough times with this pandemic, so let’s bring a little more happiness and life to our downtown area!

July 1, 2021 Bend, OR – It’s time to Come Hear the Music!

High Desert Chamber Music is returning to the origins of chamber music! We are putting a spin on our popular “Music & Friends” events and will be presenting a series of small outdoor concerts at private residences around town this summer.
These intimate, interactive performances will be held outdoors in beautiful Central Oregon settings. As is customary, our “Music & Friends” events include a one set performance (no intermission), light hors d’oeuvres, and wine.

Our first events will take place at locations in Broken Top, Sunrise Village, and North Rim between July 14-July 16, and feature a return of the popular AVIARA TRIO. This exciting ensemble has made an indelible impression on the musical landscape of Southern California for the past decade several appearances in the HDCM Concert Series. Members of the trio have been Grand Prize Winners in the Coleman National Chamber Music Competition, Finalists in the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition and Concert Artist’s Guild Auditions, winners of the D’angelo International Piano Competition, and the La Jolla Young Artists Competition.

As a small non-profit, all proceeds will support our recovery from the economic hardship of COVID, enable us to bring high quality chamber music to Bend, and support our efforts to provide Educational Outreach programming at no cost to local students, teachers or schools in Central Oregon.
These events are very limited capacity, so please be sure to make a reservation! We hope you can join us for our return to presenting high quality live classical chamber music in Central Oregon. It’s time to Come Hear the Music!
For more information about upcoming scheduled dates and locations, please visit HighDesertChamberMusic.com or call 541-306-3988.

High Desert Chamber Music’s mission is to bring world class chamber music and musicians to Central Oregon. Welcome to the Downtown Bend Newsletter, News from the ❤️️ of Bend!
Welcome to July, time has really flown by this year, we aren't sure how, but it has. With one of our favorite holidays right around the corner, expect a massive surge of out of town visitors for the weekend, while things my be a little more packed than most of us like, just remember their someone's friends or family and think about how you would want your family treated if they were visiting you!

As of Yesterday June 30th, Oregon County risk level guidelines as well as all Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted. This means no more masks and we can sit at bar tops again! However we want to be clear that just because the restrictions have been removed, it doesn't mean the virus has. Covid-19 is still going to remain a dangerous virus that we continue to deal with. In Oregon we are less than 6,000 people away from hitting our goal of 70% vaccination rate, across the US those numbers are not looking as good with less than 50% of the US fully vaccinated. With most states fully reopening and cases on a decline things are looking better, but it's not over, encourage your friends and family to get vaccinated and remember to wash your hands!

For more information visit, the Oregon Governments webpage here.

We survived the worst of it, but the extra warm weather isn't going away anytime soon. Don't forget to protect your little furry friends. Their paws are very sensitive and even can become damaged after just a minute on asphalt over 125 degrees and that can happen when it's as cold as 80 out!

Along with protecting your pups, we are protecting our forests and our environment. If you haven't heard already Bend has put a ban on private fireworks through July 9th. As much as we are going to miss having fun at home with fireworks, with record-high temps, winds, and fire danger for the good of the community we are going to miss out this year. But fear not because Pilot Butte will still be hosting their annual firework display!

This week if you are looking to beat the heat head over to Crater Lakes Spirits, for an amazing selection of mini cocktails, that are best enjoyed on the shaded patio or inside in the fresh AC. Where ever you drink them, just remember all drinks are best paired with a nice tall glass of water!

With covid restrictions being lifted, one of our favorite "hidden" gems is opening back up again. Head over to Mcmenamins to see if you can find their secret bar "The Broom Closet". With all the great drinks you've come to love from Mcmenamins it's the perfect little spot to show to all your out-of-town friends!
