Have you seen the newest restaurant to join downtown? Sen Thai Noodle & Hot Pot is brought to you buy that family that started one our favorite lunch spots Wild Rose! Though similar to the word ‘zen’, Sen translates to noodle, or thread, in Thai. A singular noodle personifies movement, balance, and longevity in numerous Asian cultures. At Sen, we’ve transported our family’s favorite Thai street carts into our own contemporary noodle shop in downtown Bend, Oregon. Travel back to Thailand with us by sampling our own renditions on these classic Thai noodles and street dishes. Indulge in Thai style hot pot as a group and cook your own fresh ingredients in our house made broth, or let us prepare it for you to enjoy as a single serving in a boiling pot. Think of Sen as your gateway into the vibrant street food culture of Bangkok and Chiang Mai — all while dining along the Deschutes with a craft cocktail in hand.

In downtown Bend we are always looking for ways to be more inclusive and make everyone's lives just a little bit better, That's why we are supporting our friends Kira and Amelia at CampFire USA, in their mission to put hygiene product disposal bins in men's restrooms. Here's where their mission began "When my FTM (female to male) transgender friend, Tony told me that he only uses the school bathrooms at school when he is on his period, but doesn't like using the women's room, it created a  passion about making a change for the better in Central Oregon communities. As part of our teen community service project, we decided that we wanted to install female hygiene product disposal bins in men's bathrooms around local businesses in downtown Bend. We're currently fundraising and spreading the word of our project in order to achieve our goal of making Bend a more trans-friendly environment. We would love your support in our efforts! Please contact us at ameliahw@icloud.com if you'd be interested in having bins installed in your men's restrooms or donate to our GoFundMe at https://gofund.me/1896df79. You can also check out our Instagram page at @co.wohelo to learn more about our organization!

Featured Business | Dudley's Bookshop Cafe

5/20/2021

Picture
Tucked into a quaint brick building in downtown Bend, Dudley’s Bookshop Café is more than a bookstore; it’s a place to gather and to linger. Of course, books are the primary draw, and Dudley’s offers a carefully curated selection of the latest titles and authors featuring literary fiction, guidebooks, western history, adventure & exploration, and sci-fi & fantasy. New and used books are sold here and all new hardbacks are 20% off, all the time. Take your time roaming the stacks, pick up a new title, and then head to the café, where the barista is pulling shots of Guatemalan and 100% Kona goodness all day long. Non-coffee drinkers will find a tempting selection of teas from local favorites T’s Tonics, Jasmine Pearl, and Metolius Artisan Tea. On weekend evenings it’s not uncommon to hear live music from Dudley’s spilling out into the street. If you’re looking for a quiet space to meet, think, or write, Dudley’s is a most welcome retreat. Above the shop is an entire floor of used books with desks or tables, chairs, outlets, and large windows that face the street below and let the daylight pour in.

Thank you Visit Bend for the great description.

Have you noticed Worthy Taps & Tacos is now, Worthy Beers & Burgers? As of this past weekend Worthy has rebranded their downtown location to feature a killer selection of burgers and as always the tasty beers they have been brewing up for years. Swing by and check out the new menu, with great options like the Green Chile Burger or the Magic Mushroom.

This week we enjoyed drinks at San Simon, self described as sophisticated debauchery and we agree. With a cocktail list that will inspire you to take a bartending class and a selection of charcuterie boards that rival the elegant creations you see on TV, It's the perfect spot for an afternoon date or a late night unwind.

If you are looking for food look no further than than Barrio. With a modern take on Latin food, you are sure to enjoy bold and delicious flavors. They have a fantastic takeout menu, featuring a massive selection of paella and enchiladas. Our favorite is the chicken barrio bowl.

In celebration of Cinco de Mayo and the Mexican Army's victory in 1862 in the Battle of Puebla, we enjoyed drinks at Hola! Downtown, which is open 11am-10pm, our favorite margarita was as always the Red Cactus. For dinner we couldn't pick just one favorite, but we were tied between the Shrimp Enchiladas and Halibut Tacos.
