2021 Summer of Flowers
DBBA Flower Responsibilities
Currently, DBBA fundraising (primarily Bend Oktoberfest) pays for the planting, watering, fertilizing and maintaining of just over 50 flower planters and 100 flower baskets in the Downtown Bend EID.
This program costs about $30,000 annually. The bulk of this expense is the daily watering. The City of Bend does not have a drip system installed to water flowers in the Downtown core, all of these watering has to be done by hand. DBBA staff starts this watering about 1am, and the route is completed around 8 or 9am, 7 days a week May - Sept annually.
How you can join the DBBA to co-create a Summer of Flowers!
DBBA 2021 Summer of Flowers Program Vision
We envision creating the most colorful summer in the history of Downtown Bend. We are working with local nurseries to create a discount package that DBBA members can easily purchase. This packages will include:
Here is the type of units we are considering:
We have also sourced less expensive plastic containers that could be a possibility. We are imagining that we would offer, as part of the package, flowers that match the flowers that we plant in the planters and flower baskets. However, we are open to include more native plants and grasses if we receive a preference for that.
Overall, our vision is to see our Downtown bursting with life and color this summer! We hope that you'll join us in creating 2021 as the Summer of Flowers!
