Bend is a thriving tourist mecca in one of the wealthiest nations in the world, while Condega is a small village in the second poorest country in the western hemisphere.

But these two sister cities have a desire to help each other when a chance appears – and a chance has just appeared in the form of small, wooden holiday ornaments.

“Craftsmen in Condega have been hard at work creating handmade, wooden ornaments for the people of Bend,” explained Rick Negus, one of the volunteers organizing the Condega fundraiser. “We’re very excited to make them available here as a way of raising money to help schoolchildren in our sister city.”

The ornaments went on sale this week at locations throughout the city, including Saxon’s Fine Jewelers in the Old Mill District and the Bend Visitor Center. Ornaments will also be sold at the downtown Bend Christmas tree lighting on November 25.

The wooden ornaments are available for a $10 tax-free donation. Each ornament is boxed for easy gift-giving, and includes a decorative tag that explains the sister city relationship and how funds will help purchase textbooks and academic supplies for the children of Condega.

“Bend is known for its generous spirit, and I’ve been impressed with the enthusiasm people are already showing for supporting this worthy cause,” explained Kathie Eckman, another project volunteer. “Not only are people helping less fortunate citizens, but they’re getting a lovely, handmade ornament with a great story attached.”

To learn more, visit www.bendsistercityfoundation.org to order online or stop by the Bend Visitor Center at the corner of Oregon and Lava in downtown Bend.

City Walls at City Hall

Events

art at city hall bend

art downtown bend

art hop bend

art showings bend

art shows bend

Art Walk

art walk bend

bend events

bend oregon art shows

city walls at city hall

downtown bend art

downtown bend or

Downtown Bend Oregon

Downtown Bend Oregon Events

Downtown Bend Oreogn

family stuff to do in downtown bend

first friday bend

first friday downtown bend

gallery walk bend

gallery walk downtown bend

First Friday September 2nd

Fall Art Hop

Events

Feature

art downtown bend

art hop

art hop bend

Art Walk

downtown bend

downtown bend art

downtown bend or

Downtown Bend Oregon

Downtown Bend Oregon Events

Downtown Bend Oreogn

family stuff to do in downtown bend

first friday bend

first friday downtown bend

fun stuff to do in bend

gallery walk bend

gallery walk downtown bend

things to do in bend oregon

things to do in downtown bend

Friday, October 7th! The exhibition continues through October 30.

Gary Vincent presents multi-hued, expressionistic acrylic landscapes interpreting Central Oregon. He develops the composition central to the image and then works in successive, often visible layers to create movement and depth. Study with Ovanes Berberian and Del Gish, associates of noted impressionist Sergi Bongart, influenced his use of color. Vincent paints in the tradition of Bongart who stressed the “…spirit of painting can trump technique,” as his paintings reveal a deep affection for Oregon landscape.

D. Chosen materials often relate to suggested themes such as quilting, landscapes and literature, including the Delectable Mountain series with reference to “The Pilgrim’s Progress” and the Ice Nine series from Kurt Vonnegut’s “Cat’s Cradle.” In 1993, the Oregon Arts Commission awarded Van Leunen an Individual Artist Fellowship for her unique imagery.

Van Leunen’s artwork also includes poetry by Kelly Gill Holland. The poet, published in periodicals such as Modern Poetry in New York and the Oregonian, notes that early days with her father in the wilderness inspired much of her work, as did her interest in language, music and voice. The two long-time friends collaborated on themes as reflected in chosen poems that appear written or lettered on the constructions.

___________________________________________

Patagonia @ Bend
920 Bond Street Suite #101

Mike Putnam photography.
Outdoor photography of Central Oregon.

___________________________________________

Pave Fine Jewelry
101 Minnesota Avenue

For the October First Friday Art Walk, Pavé Fine Jewelry in downtown Bend will be featuring the work of artists Gabrielle Taylor and Chris Eckberg. They will be adding many more companies to their roster in the coming months.

“Every operator we’ve talked to is excited to work with us because we are an additional resource who is promoting tourism in Bend,” Goettemoeller said. “Our success will mean more business for them as well.”

Visit the TourBend office today in downtown Bend across from the Oxford Hotel and upstairs from Thump Coffee at 25 NW Minnesota Ave, Suite 11 or call toll free at 866.774.5837 or visit the website at www.tourbend.com.

?

Betty Buckley at The Tower

Events

betty buckley bend

betty buckley downtown bend

downtown bend music

downtown bend or

Downtown Bend Oregon Events

Downtown Bend Oreogn

live music in bend

tower theater

tower theater bend

tower theatre

tower theatre bend

See her one woman show on April 18th

April 18th 7:30 pm

For tickets, go to Towertheatre.org, or the Tower Theatre Box office Downtown Bend 541.317.0700

High Desert Gallery

News

downtown bend

downtown bend art

downtown bend or

Downtown Bend Oregon

Downtown Bend Oregon Events

Downtown Bend Oreogn

gallery walk bend

gallery walk downtown bend

Special Art Hop Weekend

April 1 and April 2 are two special nights filled with Great Musicians and Fine Art at High Desert Gallery’s downtown Bend Oregon gallery location, 10 NW Minnesota Avenue at The Oxford.

Great finds at Trivia Antiques!

Feature

News

amber monk beads

antiques bend

antiques bend oregon

downtown bend oregon shopping

Downtown Bend Oreogn

gift ideas

navajo turquoise necklace

Unique and Fabulous items at Trivia

Check out the beautiful jewelry at Trivia!

Stunning 1970s turquoise chunky necklace.
