Swingle Singers Come to Tower
A Cappella Godparents of Glee Dazzle the Tower
From U.K to Bend April 18
(BEND, OR., April 1, 2011): The Bend Surgery Center’s Foundation Series wraps up its 2010-11 season with the international vocal phenomenon The Swingle Singers. From the pilot of “Glee” to the soundtracks of “Milk” and “Wedding Crashers,” this octet spans the musical world from Bach to the Beatles, all accompanied by their own vocal rhythm section.
For over four decades, the unmistakable agility and blend of “swingle singing” has defined the a cappella art form. Founded in Paris by American Ward Swingle, the original group shot to fame and the pop charts in the mid-1960s with five Grammy’s for their first album. Since then, the Swingle Singers have performed across the U.K., America, Asia, and Europe, releasing over 50 albums.
The latest lineup of young and talented voices represents the group’s transformation from pioneering crossover artists to contemporary vocal super-group.
“You’ll swear there’s a full orchestra on stage,” says Ray Solley, Executive Director of the Tower Theatre Foundation. “More and more people now recognize how exciting and energetic a vocal group performance can be. The incredible Swingle Singers’ vocalists actually set the standard for the beatbox sound four decades ago.”
Bend Surgery Center’s is the title sponsor of the Foundation Series. Supporting sponsor is Central Oregon Radiology.
