Parking Survey Results & Next Steps
The results are in from our recent downtown parking survey. We took input from downtown business owners and other interested stakeholders. The DBBA then summarized our position on the issue and articulated what downtown businesses would like to have happen next.
We received many responses & great ideas from downtown businesses in our recent parking survey. We are excited to share the results:
The overwhelming majority feel that:
- An ample supply of customer parking is good for business
- Employees using customer parking hurts commerce
- A reduction in employees using customer parking would help business
The majority supported passing escalating fines for habitual parking abusers, but most everyone would like to see a reduction in permit fees to make the cost more accessible to workers.
The response was mixed on the increasing the distance a vehicle must move in order to extend the time limit.

In sum, we have a lot of education to do amongst ourselves and our customers about the myriad of parking options downtown. However, we are very optimistic that with so many people talking about this issue that more good ideas will come to the forefront.
Our next steps will be to work with City Council, staff, downtown businesses and customers to develop a comprehensive plan that best suits all needs. We hope to have some positive announcements within the month.
Thanks to all who filled out the survey. Our prize winners picked at random are: Tyler-Arbor Mortgage, Wendy Sexton-Trivia Antiques, Michelle Ross-Rockwell-Massage Therapy Center and Steve McMasters-Haven Home.
