“Playing for Change: Peace Through Music”—a film that brings together musicians, singers, and audiences around the world—will be shown for the first time in Oregon on Thursday, March 11, at the Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood Avenue, in Bend. The film will benefit 106.7 KPOV, www.kpov.org, Bend Community Radio.

The 84-minute documentary will be shown twice, at 6:30 p.m. and at 8:30 p.m., with doors opening 30 minutes before each showing. Tickets at the door are $6 general admission and $5 for KPOV members. Children are welcome. Concessions, including popcorn, snacks, soda, beer and wine, will be sold. For accessibility accommodations, call KPOV at 541-322-0863 by March 5.

“Playing for Change: Peace Through Music” takes viewers around the world—from North America to Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and back again—with musicians and singers merging their music into an inspirational tapestry with such songs as “Stand By Me,” “One Love,” “War/No More Trouble,” and many more, all with the idea of bringing peace to the world through music.

PBS television host Bill Moyers calls “Playing for Change” a remarkable example of “the simple yet transformative power of music.” The film was produced over several years with a mobile recording studio and cameras. More information is available at http://www.playingforchange.com.

“Playing for Change: Peace Through Music” was the Audience Award winner at the 2008 Woodstock Film Festival, Best Song winner at the 2008 Roxbury Film Festival, and an official selection at 2008 Tribeca Film Festival and the 2008 Jerusalem Film Festival.
