January 2012
The Rotary Club of Greater Bend is organizing a Bend Beer Crawl called Pints for Polio. It will be held 2pm – 6pm on Saturday, March 10, 2012.
Bend Beer Crawlers will register online in advance for $25 or at the door for $30. On the day of the event they will check in and receive a commemorative mug, goody bag, map to the participating pubs, and entry into a drawing for fun prizes. Crawlers will walk around downtown Bend sampling craft beer at a variety of pubs. We expect 200 – 300 participants. Most are not likely to visit every pub, so each establishment might see 100 Crawlers throughout the afternoon.
Pints for Polio will be promoted on local radio, TV, newspapers, posters, the Pints for Polio Website http://www.greaterbendrotary.org/PintsForPolio.cfm, and Facebook. There are over 300 Rotarians in Central Oregon. A small portion of the Rotarians and their guests could easily give us the number of participants that we are expecting. Several media sponsors have expressed interest in promoting Pints for Polio.
Each pub will be asked to provide six ounce tastes of two different craft beers, preferably poured into the commemorative mugs. Each pub will also be asked to donate something for the drawing, like a free dinner for two. This will help increase publicity for each pub.
Participating pubs will receive promotion through all of the media outlets mentioned above. In addition to two free 6 ounce beer tastes, Crawlers are likely to purchase additional beverages, food, and merchandize. Each pub will also have new people exposed to their establishments, who could become future customers. Pubs will also be given the opportunity to provide promotional material for the goody bag. We recommend discount coupons that encourage Pints for Polio participants to return at a future date.
The goal of Pints for Polio is to increase awareness in the community of the dangers of Polio and raise funds for Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign to eradicate Polio and wipe out this disease that paralyses and kills children.
