Forever Plaid @ The Tower
“Forever Plaid,” a critically acclaimed musical comedy revue, resurrects the close four-part harmony of the great “guy groups” of the 1950s and turns the Tower into a downtown soda shop Thursday, February 10 at 7:30 pm. The show is part of the Francis, Hansen & Martin CenterStage Series. The story stars “The Plaids”—a fictional quartet of high school crooners who die in a collision with a bus of Catholic schoolgirls on their way to see the Beatles—and their return from the afterlife for one last chance at musical glory. An off-Broadway hit, this affectionate and dreamy production is from the Barter Theatre, America’s longest running professional acting company.
In the tradition of The Four Aces, The Four Freshman and The Four Lads, “The Plaids” serenade you with their versions of legendary radio hits, including: “Three Coins in the Fountain”; “Moments to Remember”; “Sixteen Tons”; “Chain Gang”; “Heart and Soul”; “Shangri-La”; “Love is a Many-Splendored Thing”; and a tongue-in-check tribute to The Ed Sullivan Show featuring “Lady of Spain”.
“I first experienced the music and comedy of ‘Forever Plaid’ as it was created at the Wisdom Bridge Theatre in Chicago in the late ‘80s,” said Ray Solley, Executive Director of the Tower Theatre Foundation. “It’s an honor and thrill to now present this fun-filled American musical, produced by the Tony-winning Barter Theatre, in Bend. Plus,” Solley added, “wear plaid and get half-off drinks!”
Currently celebrating its 77th anniversary, the Barter is one of the country’s last, and most respected, year-round professional resident repertory theatres. Barter alumni include Gregory Peck, Ned Beatty and Kevin Spacey.
Upcoming performances in the 2010-11 Francis, Hansen & Martin CenterStage Series include Arturo Sandoval, and Linda Purl with Lee Lessack. Supporting sponsor of CenterStage is Deschutes Brewery.
The Tower Theatre Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to maintaining and operating the historic theatre and making the best in performing arts available and accessible to all citizens of Central Oregon.
