It was another busy week at the DBBA. We worked closely with the City of Bend to get new parking signs installed all around the district. This is just the first of many steps to make parking in Downtown Bend easier, more intuitive and user friendly. We also requested easy-to-read graphics from the City of Bend so that we had the tools we needed to communicate about parking in Downtown Bend. We received these assets and added them to our Google Drive of assets that we provide all businesses in the EID district. These assets include all Downtown Bend logos, Downtown photos, Art Walk logos, COVID19 resources, and more.
We finalized all of the ads for The Source Weekly's Downtown Holiday Shopping Guide this week, and we continued to use our social media channels to promote Downtown Bend and all of our local businesses.
This week we did a lot of background work and really began to dig into future planning and preparing for the next EID cycle. If you don't know, the EID stands for "Economic Improvement District" and it's one of the way's that the DBBA is funded. The DBBA also runs revenue generating program and engages in fundraising efforts in order to provide Downtown with more support and beautification. Staff worked this week on preparing program budgets for the next three years as well as planning a reimagined Oktoberfest for 2021.
We also began working on our Downtown Banner Program for 2021, reaching out to people and organizations that might want to reserve space in 2021 and getting them on the banner schedule. We manage about 100 banner poles in Downtown Bend. This includes all of the sales, maintenance, billing, installation, removal and scheduling for this program - which is pretty cumbersome. It's an incredibly robust program. We are happy to be able to provide this service to our community, plus serves as one of the revenue generating programs that help provide for Downtown's vitality.
We successfully rolled out our Digital Downtown Dollars/eGift Card program this week - and in just 4 days we already had 30 business signed up and had sold 10 certificates. We anticipate this program being a huge success and we are excited about going out and getting sponsorship for sales incentives to help us drive more traffic into Downtown Bend.
Of course, not a week goes by that we are no out on the street keeping Downtown Bend clean and presentable. We are proud to work every week towards our mission of increasing the vitality of Downtown Bend!
We are in love with this tree ring art print at Found Natural Goods in Downtown Bend! This 372 year old tree Sitka Spruce from Oregon Coast is printed on three 24x36 inch panels and signed by artist Erik Linton.
"When you buy one of these tree ring prints, you’re getting an actual handmade woodcut print, not something printed from a machine. That’s because I consider each a work of art that is as unique as the tree I make them from. I also don’t believe in cutting down trees to make my art. I travel to meaningful places to find wood from previously fallen trees. In a way, I’m just publishing the story of a place as written by a tree over decades and sometimes hundreds of years. I sign each print because I stand by my work. If you’re not happy with the artwork I will give you a full refund, no questions asked." - Erik Linton, Artist.

The Commons Cafe and Taproom, located in the historic Rademacher House built in 1904, has a rich history as a space that has always served Bend in positive ways.
A few years ago, The Commons Cafe and Taproom moved into the house and took over management of the adjoining plaza. This space was transformed by providing positive programming, clear expectations & boundaries for the use of the space, cleaning & beautification, and a place for our community to gather, laugh, learn and enjoy each other.
The Commons is key to the health and well-being of Downtown Bend. It provides a space for storytelling, live music, art - and so much more. So many of the values that we hold dear, the bands that we love, the artists we admire - are supported by this business.
Please consider giving back to The Commons and assuring that they continue to be a cornerstone of our community for years to come. Thank you.
A message from the Owners....
We help build community in Bend, now we need support from our community!
In a typical year, right now we would be in the thick of prepping for this season's APRES SKI BASH winter concert series, lining up First Friday musicians and artists to party with, setting a schedule with The Whippoorwill for incredible intimate listening experiences, confirming private holiday parties, and of course hosting the best weekly open mic in town with Bill Powers.
These events, most of which are free and open to the public, help us navigate the slower winter months financially and keep us afloat until spring. Not being able to host any events of any kind since February of 2020 has left us in a very fragile position, and as hard as it is to admit it, we need your help.
We understand everyone has faced challenges over the past months, and there are few that the pandemic hasn't impacted negatively in some way. The heart and soul of our business, bringing people together and building community, has indeed been ripped out over the last few months and along with that the financial windfall of hosting all these events and gatherings.
We are asking you to consider how many $5 beverages you think you would have purchased off us at events over the past year, if it were a normal year, and possibly contribute that amount to help us fill our coffers as we head into a winter season like no other. Even if it is only $5, any amount is greatly appreciated. The debt load we have incurred this year is quite significant and these next few months will no doubt add to it. These funds will help pay down debt, cover future costs, and stabilize payroll. Also, we are always looking ahead to when we can throw parties again, and some will be set aside to make that first one back something to remember.
As a thank you for your $25 (or greater) contribution, we will send you
two beverage vouchers for future redemption at one of our community events.
If we can get 600 people to give $25 we'll hit our goal! We've historically hosted 200 - 600 people regularly in the plaza (often in one night) and feel this goal is attainable. If you have ever attended any of our events, please consider contributing to the future of The Commons and all the goodness and community we strive to build.
A huge thank you to all our local sponsors and agencies big and small that have helped us produce events in the past, and we look forward to the day we are able to work with you again.
More than anything, we long for the day when we can bring you all back, building on what Crow's Feet Commons started 6 years ago. And...as a thank you for your continued support in these tough times, your first 2 rounds could be on us!
We humbly thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
-Dan, Andria, Baby Evie, and the rest of The Commons Crew
*Beverage vouchers will be redeemable for alcohol or Non-alcohol beverages up to $5 in value. They have no cash value, and are redeemable only during events in 2021-2022.*
